Online Spirit Level

A surface level measuring tool, known as a spirit level, bubble level, is a tool used to determine whether a surface is horizontal or vertical (plumb).

In 1661, a sealed glass tube containing alcohol and an air bubble was created as the spirit or bubble level. It was initially employed on telescopes and then on surveying equipment, but it wasn't until the introduction of factory-made models in the middle of the 19th century that it was used as a carpenter's tool. In 1777, a bubble floating under a circle glass to indicate level in all directions was the first circular level.
